Cash transfers are now a key element of humanitarian aid and social policy in many countries. But adoption lags behind in low-income countries. Could and should the EU do more to support the adoption and expansion of cash transfers, not just as a humanitarian aid tool but as a broader development instrument?

SPRI Global Director Dr. Chris De Neubourg was recently invited to join a discussion on cash transfers and how the EU can effectively support them. The discussion was initiated and hosted by the European Commission’s department for International Cooperation and Development. Learn more about their work here. Other notable participants included:

Ellie CHOWNS – MEP
Francesca BASTAGLI – Overseas Development Institute
Luke HARMAN – Save the Children
Françoise MILLECAM – European Commission
Keetie ROELEN – Institute of Development Studies
